Scholarship Awards

The Betty Shockey Memorial Scholarship Fund began in 2000 by the family of Quota International of Santa Fe member, Betty Shockey as a memorial. Mrs. Shockey was passionate about providing equal opportunities in education for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.

The scholarship is awarded annually to students continuing their education beyond high school who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing or to hearing students preparing to work with Deaf, Hard of Hearing or those with speech difficulties. Potential recipients must meet the criteria set forth by the club.

Members  are pleased to announce The Betty Shockey Memorial Scholarship Fund Recipients for 2019: Nthabeleng McDonald and Augusta Skoog.

Scholarship Recipient 2019: Nthabeleng McDonald

Nthabeleng is a 2019 graduate of the New Mexico School for the Deaf. She is currently attending Gallaudet University. Nthabeleng is majoring in Psychology.

Scholarship Recipient 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019: Augusta Skoog

Augusta has attended Gallaudet University in Washington DC and is currently studying at the Santa Fe Community College. Her main area of study/major is Education. Her intention is to become a teacher.

Scholarship Recipient 2018: Vergena Chee

Vergena is a 2018 graduate of the New Mexico School for the Deaf. Her field of study at Gallaudet University is in Social Work and other related fields .

While funds awarded do not cover the entire expense of a post-secondary education, they do assist in defraying the expenses associated with a post-secondary education.
